In an effort to keep up with the competition from the Nintendo Wii, Sony recently unveiled a new PS3 controller at the Gamescom conference in August. The PS3 motion controller is similar to the motion-detecting Wii remote.

The PS3 motion remote promises gamers a more unique playing experience than any other controller on the market. Sony claims the controller can offer sub-pixel precision.

"In real life people don’t just move sideways that’s why our motion sensor controller reads your position in full 3D this means that you can reach right into the TV and become part of the game," the controller's trailer explained.

The new controller looks like a wand with a ball of color at the top. The lights and colors of the ball are intended to give gamers new and different ways to play. For example, the flashing ball could indicate who the winner is after a game.

Handheld X Box Games Console May Be on the Way

A senior exec from the Microsoft corporation has indicated that the company will eventually release a handheld version of the X Box games console. The executive, Shane Kim, shared the news in an interview with game website Kikizo.

"For us, it's a matter of focusing on 'when', because if we chased after a mobile or hand-held opportunity, we would not have the resources and ability to do things like Project Natal," Mr. Kim said.

Microsoft has suggested that their handheld device will do more than just play games. The device would more than likely incorporate social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter as well as movie rental services like Netflix.

Mr. Kim would not reveal a timeline for the release of the handheld gaming console. He said the company is also toying with the idea of creating its own phone in lieu of a portable console.

The Nintendo Wii price has remained the same since its debut several years ago. However, in light of the economy and slumping sales, Nintendo is likely to drop the price of the console soon.

The price drop is expected to hit in time for the holiday season, around October or November. The new price is expected to be $199.
